16th May 2012

What a difference a day makes, beautiful sunshine although a cold wind was blowing as we set off for the illusive Peterborough as it took nearly four weeks from Oundle. Leaving Wansford Station behind we went down river under the bridge heading for Water Newton and its lock.

Sally took the chance and got the vacuum out making the most of 240volts, and prepared the washer with its first load of cloths.
We ran down the side of the A1 for a while and it was a pleasure to see all those folk rushing here there and everywhere as we slowly trundled down the Nene.
Reaching Water Newton, we pulled over on the landing stage and took the opportunity to get some photographs of what is a most beautiful place (well we think so), with its church, mill and stone houses.

Leaving Water Newton behind we made for the next lock which wads at Alwalton, and leaving the lock here we got a great view of the old mill, which is now some lucky persons residence.
Reaching and negotiating the lock at Alwalton, it was a run down to Orton lock and Peterborough, but on route we passed by a very pretty bridge, which we remembered from our first narrowboat holiday in August 2008. Oh yes that reminds me, Sally and I met four years ago today and went out for a nice meal, the start of good things to come.

We also spotted some saddle back cows (hahaha) and a memorial to the guys who worked on the river, making it navigable for us all today. Soon it was Orton lock the last on for today and Peterborough itself, where we moored up after getting rid of three weeks of rubbish and filling our water tank. we also spotted the boat which we told you about two weeks ago that had sunk due to getting up on the step and tipping over as the water went down, and some folk said leave the boat and go home, (NOT).

As we intend to be here for a few days, should you like to visit, just give us a call on the mobile.
