After planning an early start last night we were up and ready for the off at 08.30 for a run up to Foxton Locks and get booked in for a climb to the top, as there are restrictions through lack of water. It only took about an hour to reach Foxton, but in the cold and wet as it was raining quite heavily. Once there we moored up while Jo went on ahead to book us in, and as they were only letting six boats go up at a time one of us had to wait till the next lift. John and Jo being who they are let us go as the sixth boat and they waited till the next lot went.
While waiting the rain got heavier as did the wind, and with Sally at the helm we readied to climb the Foxton Flight. Right we are off, the lock set with the help of Jo, Sally entered the first chamber (with two sets of five to go) and started our climb up the flight. We had been so looking forward to this famous staircase flight of locks, yet it was in some way spoiled by the weather for as we climbed higher the rain changed to sleet and then to snow, which was both cold and strength sapping. (once again no camera as I did not want it ruining).
Foxton complete we moved on to find a place to wait for John and Jo, and once tied up we lit a fire and had a nice hot cup of tea before setting off back on foot to help Acen up the flight. At the little cafe at the top we had a nice hot pasty and hot chocolate before getting a lift back to October House and moving on to Laughton Hills for the night. Nice and warm, we settled down to watch a bit of the box, and the Apprentice.
