Time to move on

Today being Thursday it was time to make for Newark, setting off around 10.40 and as we had no rush we, at low revs headed off from the pontoon.

It wasn't long before we passed the quaint little church of Holme with North Muskham up ahead.

Passing North Muskham we got a good view of the church which stands elegantly on the edge of the village. Next was the bridge that carries the A1 across the Trent and the place that brought so much excitement to us last year, as we had crossed it many times to buy the boat and then to Thorne where we fitted it out. Now with our second time of going under it we were remembering that same excitement.

Passing under the A1 and passed Crankley Point we came to the railway bridge just before Newark Nether Lock, here I called the lock keeper on the VHF and was instructed to wait as there was a boat coming down, and on the green light we were to proceed into the lock chamber.

With the lock done it was onto the pontoon moorings just after Jubilee bridge and before the Trent bridge and as luck would have it there was plenty of room, so we moored up intending to stay for a few days before heading for Nottingham. The next few days will be spent lazing about, fishing and of course shopping, with a bit of sight seeing thrown in for good measure.
