Monday 1st August

Not feeling too well this morning, so Sally had a walk into the chemist at Thorne for me while we waited for Alex and Hillary to catch us up. As we had six swing or lift bridges it is easier if there are two of you, leap frogging each other. Finally leaving at around 10.30 heading for the lock at Keadby and the tidal River Trent.

As you can see the duck weed on the Keadby & Stainforth canal was massed in places leaving a trail behind as you pass through it, and the further you went the thicker it got.

Thanks Ian for the photo tip.

We passed the final bridge, which was a sliding rail bridge at about 13.00 and got moored up by 13.15 ready for tomorrow mornings early start. We booked the lock for 06.30 so did some preparation work before settling down to a spot of fishing and a walk along the Trent bank.

Caught my first eel, horrible little critters.
