Thursday and it’s time to move on again, and our aim today
id to reach Pope Corner and the junction with the River Cam which runs down
into Cambridge.
With a mixture of sun and cloud, but more sun which was
nice, we pulled away leaving what was an excellent GOBA mooring heading off
downstream. The river here is a lot like the canal system, being narrow and
sometimes shallow, the only difference being the twists and turns and the high
banks. As we moved along we passed an inflatable rigged out as a cruiser and
moored alongside an encampment of hippies and their tents living the good life.
There were sections of the river that were completely
covered in duck weed, just like it was at Selby last year.
As we motored
through it we made a path which closed up within minutes of passing, looking as
if no one had ever gone that way. Yet more young Grebe amongst the lilies which
adds to the pleasure of boating, and it wasn’t long before we found our mooring
for the night which was a well-tended EA mooring just before the river Cam.
Being the first there for the day we had the prime position, but it wasn’t long
before we were joined by two other narrow boats and three cruisers.
As they set up their BBQ and got it going ready to cook
their dinner, the clouds appeared and the heavens opened up, they did however
tell me that they got their food cooked before the rain put it out.
