Having spent a day laid up at Aldreth because of high winds,
today we set off for Earith and the Westview marina where there were all
facilities and diesel. With only 4 miles to run and Hermitage lock, it was
going to be a short days travelling before we moored up again.
On reaching the pontoon, the lady called for us to turn and
come in the other way round that meant a turn in strong wind and approach with
the flow and the wind behind us (scary). We made our turn which left us in the
middle of the river and fast approaching where we should be moored, so it was
power in reverse to hold our position, with bursts of power stick full over to
get us in to the pontoon. I must admit I was very tense, and wasn’t sure that I
would make it on this pass, but hey we did and received some very positive praise
from other boaters. Fuelled up we moved to the end of the mooring and tied up
for the night, which has turned into two days.
Whilst here we have seen some excellent wildlife including a
seal, yes a seal this far inland at the top of the tidal Great Ouse.
