21st April 2012

Woke to bright blue skies and after agood cup of tea it was off to Willy Watts marina, just across the lock for two bags of coal. Then the off heading for Thapston and Islip for moorings and water. There is somthing special about the fresh smell of the river and its meandering through the countryside.

Our first lock was at Woodford a beautiful village with its prominan church sat beside the river. The lock was a guilatine lock operated by a large wheel to raise and lower it, oh boy talk about tired arms. Here we saw a Red Kite as it glided overhead, what a great site it was. We did get photos and will post them when we get back on line. Next was Denford and yet another wheeld lock and this one was realy hard, hwever we had the joy of seeing our first pair of swollows of the summer.

We approached the Thrapston ans Islip bridge where there was supposed to be water and a 48 hour mooring but could not see it, but as we got closer, there to the left of the bridge was a side cutting, a landing stage and water so we pulled in, a good mooring and we topped up the water and both had a good long shower.

Next was a walk into Thrapston for groceries, a nice little town, but it seemed closed and I was looking for a Barber. still never mind I will get my hair cut in Peterborough in the next two weeks. wheather wise its been a good day with only a few showers and the water levels have fallen a bit.
